This is a contest for you techies out there!

Just develop a Firefox Extension for Twilio! Using Mozilla Labs Jetpack, if you know HTML/JavaScript/CSS, you have the skills you need to get started. Jetpack even works with Mozilla's web-based IDE called Builder so you can get started without having to download any software. Of course, there's the native API as well if that's more to your liking.

The developers have until 11:59pm on Sunday, July 25th, to submit a Firefox Extension to Twilio for the chance to win some sweet prizes. Developers may submit as many add-ons to the contest as they wish, but can only win one prize. Submit your Firefox Extension now!

The first place winner will receive a Netbook from Twilio and $100 in Twilio developer credit.

Be A Master Poet!

The time has come for you to wax lyrical! 

The Foyle Young Poets 2013 Contest is now open for entries!

With entries from over 7,300 young people last year from a staggering 60 countries worldwide, it is one of the largest literary competitions in the world and its importance is widely attested. Each year 100 winners (85 Commendations and 15 Overall Winners) are selected by a team of high profile judges, and receive their awards at an annual prize-giving event on National Poetry Day on the 3rd October 2013.

Thanks to funding from the Foyle Foundation the competition remains completely free to enter and they are able to offer a wide range of prizes, opportunities and resources to young people and schools across the UK. Winners from the 15 to 17 age category attend a week-long intensive residential Arvon course where they develop their creative writing skills alongside fellow poets. Winners aged 11-14 group benefit from poetry residencies at their school followed by distance mentoring. The competition is free to enter.

Individuals may enter more than one poem, however they strongly advise that you concentrate on drafting and redrafting your poems and send only a small selection of your very best (they suggest no more than 6-8 maximum). Remember, quality is more important than quantity! Please read the full rules carefully, especially the eligibility criteria.

Get Wild!

The BBC Wildlife Camera-Trap Photo of the Year competition will pit your photography skills with the best out there.

Whether you’re a field researcher or a keen amateur, the contest holders want to see your best remote-camera images – and they could win you a £3,000 research grant or a Páramo jacket.

This competition is open to all UK and non-UK residents.

To enter the contest, you can send in a maximum of 12 camera-trap images in any of the four categories specified. Animal Portraits Images taken during the course of your research should capture the character or spirit of their subject. Animal Behaviour Images captured during the course of your research should show interesting or unusual behaviour. New Discoveries Images should show something new to science, such as a species never before photographed in the wild or outside its known range, or behaviour never before recorded. The caption must make clear what the discovery is. British Wildlife Images must be taken in the British Isles by amateur photographers.

Twelve cash prizes, from £5 to £40, are up for grabs in four categories – Front Garden, Back Garden, Hanging Basket and Tub.

All Whiston residents with gardens qualify for entry, and a panel of expert judges from Whiston Gardening Club will select the winners. If you are one of those eligible, what are you waiting for?

Empowering Youth & Women

The New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) Planning and Coordinating Agency (NEPAD Agency) and the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation ACP - EU (CTA) have joined forces in celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU).

They are jointly organising a Photo and Essay Contest which will run from March 27 to May 31, 2013. The Contest will focus on Youth, Women and Rural Agricultural Development. Photo entries will depict what NEPAD Agency and its partners are doing in empowering rural youth and women in agriculture. Cash and other prizes will be given out.
