FirstCaribbean Photography Contest

If you submit the winning entry under the theme "Celebrating the Bajan Way", you can win a cool $2,000.00. The winning entry should depict Bajans celebrating the various holidays and festivals: from Independence, to Christmas to New Year's Day.

*Contest is open only to amateur photographers residing in Barbados. Entries should be submitted as an 8" x 10" print as well as on a CD. The file should be no larger than 500KB with a resolution of 330dpi. Entries must be addressed to: Grace Elias, CIBC FirstCaribbean, Rendezvous Branch, Rendezvous, Christ Church.

Make The Write Decision

Big Fiction Magazine is giving out $500 / $250 and publication in their Summer contest issue to the top two winners of their contest respectively.

Submit your entry online between January 1 – February 28, 2013. All entries are considered for publication, and all participants will receive a copy of the contest issue. The winning entries will be announced on their website during May 2013, and will be published in the Summer contest issue.

Only previously unpublished work can be considered. E-mailed submissions will not be considered.

All entries must be single, self-contained works of fiction, between 7,500 and 30,000 words. Please DO NOT include any identifying information on the manuscript itself. Only literary fiction in English will be accepted. The $20 contest fee includes a copy of the contest issue for all entrants. International submissions in English are eligible for an additional $5 to cover postage. Volunteers and staff of Big Fiction are not eligible.

Send your entry using the Submit button on their contest post. Be sure to include the mailing address where you would like them to send your complimentary issue.

Joy Rain!

Joy is raining down in this new year - and you can win a trip to a rainforest!

Up for grabs is a week’s trip for two to the rainforest of Panama. The Prize will be awarded in the form of a $5,000.00 CAD gift card from Marlin Travel St. Albert Centre, valid for one year from date of issue.

The value of the prize is based on a seven-night stay in Panama, including roundtrip airfare for two people from Edmonton, Alberta; five night-stay in an Ocean View room double-occupancy at the Royal Decameron Golf & Beach Resort all inclusive; two-night stay in a standard city view room at the Radisson Decapolis Panama City (buffet breakfast, lunch, dinner, unlimited domestic drinks and house wine included); an excursion to Anton Valley and Chagres National Park; and a tour of Panama City with Canal visit. Transportation and taxes were included in determining the Prize value. Travel insurance was not included.

This particular trip, including excursions, is available from December 18, 2012 to April 23, 2013 from Edmonton, Alberta. The gift card can also be used toward another trip of the Winner’s choice, available through Marlin Travel St. Albert Centre. Trip must be booked through Marlin Travel St. Albert Centre. Prize has no cash value and cannot be redeemed for cash by the Winner.

Some contests are just super easy to enter.

This is another of those contests - you just need to fill in a simple form to be entered. So not much to lose and every reason to give it a try.

As a rule of thumb, for such contests, I would encourage participants to first read the official rules, especially relating to privacy of information. If you are able to accept what the contest holder is proposing, go ahead and enter the contest. If you feel your personal information may be used for a purpose other than what you are comfortable with, I would advise you to skip the contest.
